Give your child a confident start to Year 4 with this structured one-week English course designed for children currently in Year 3.
Running from Monday 17th – Friday 21st August, this course focuses on developing the core reading and vocabulary skills needed for a strong transition into Year 4, while introducing early foundations for 11+ preparation.
Each session is 1 hour daily, delivered in a small group setting to ensure clear explanation, engagement, and opportunities for every child to participate.
Throughout the week, students will build confidence in:
Vocabulary development
Understanding and using prefixes, suffixes and root words
Using context clues to decode unfamiliar vocabulary
Developing comprehension skills, including:
Retrieval
Inference
Identifying key ideas
Understanding the theme or message of a text
Lessons are carefully structured to introduce these skills in a clear and accessible way, helping students feel more prepared and confident as they move into Year 4.
This course is ideal for children who would benefit from a focused boost in English before the new school year, particularly those beginning to develop skills for future 11+ learning.
By the end of the week, parents will have a clearer understanding of their child’s current level, along with guidance on what to focus on over the remainder of the summer.
Delivered online via Zoom, with a face-to-face option available in CR2 (limited spaces – please enquire).
